The Sri Lankan Influencer Marketing Calendar: Avurudu, Vesak, Christmas and More

Timing is half of a Sri Lankan influencer campaign. The same post that sells out a product in the week before Avurudu can vanish without a trace a week after it. Here are the moments Sri Lankans shop, travel and celebrate, what to run in each, and — most importantly — when to book your creators.

The golden rule: book early, post before the peak

People buy before a festival, not during it. Aim for posts to go live in the one to three weeks before each moment, which means booking creators three to four weeks ahead. That leaves time for creators to answer your brief, for you to pay, for products to reach them, and for real content to be made — rather than rushed.

January: new year, fresh starts

After the December rush, January is quieter for spending but strong for fitness, health, education and personal finance. Good for testing new creators at a calmer pace.

February and March: plan Avurudu

Valentine’s Day brings a short burst for gifts, flowers, restaurants and hotels. But the real work of February is planning the year’s biggest moment: Avurudu. Brief creators by mid-March.

April: Sinhala and Tamil New Year (Avurudu)

Avurudu falls on 13 and 14 April and is the peak shopping season for clothes, sweets and kavili, gifts, electronics, home goods and travel. The spending happens from late March to about 10 April. Content that works: families preparing for Avurudu, the new-clothes haul, traditional sweets being made, Avurudu games, gifts for relatives. A swarm of creators across several cities makes a brand feel part of the celebration everywhere at once.

May and June: Vesak and Poson

Vesak, on the May full moon, and Poson, on the June full moon, are religious festivals. The tone matters: community, giving, dansal, lanterns and family visits — not hard selling. Brands that support community activities, and ask creators to reflect that sincerely, come across well. Keep promotions gentle, and brief creators to be thoughtful.

July and August: mid-year and Esala

A good window for launches, back-to-business campaigns and tourism, including the Esala Perahera season in Kandy, which brings visitors and a lot of attention to the city. Hotels, restaurants and transport in Kandy do well with local creators through this period.

September to November: back to school, Deepavali

Stationery, uniforms, bags and electronics for the school term, and Deepavali in October or November, which is a major moment for Tamil communities and for sweets, clothing, jewellery and gifts. Creators in Jaffna, Colombo and the hill country can reach these audiences authentically.

December: Christmas, year-end and tourist season

The busiest month of all for many categories: Christmas gifts and food, year-end sales, office parties, and the peak of the tourist season along the coast. Book early — popular creators fill up — and combine gift and food content with hotel and travel creators if you serve visitors.

Moment When Book creators by Strong categories
Avurudu 13–14 April Mid-March Clothes, sweets, gifts, electronics, travel
Vesak May full moon Mid-April Community, food, giving (gentle tone)
Poson June full moon Mid-May Community, travel (gentle tone)

Deepavali October or November Three to four weeks before Sweets, clothing, jewellery, gifts
Christmas and year-end December Mid-November Gifts, food, hotels, travel

Festival dates that follow the lunar calendar move each year — check the official list of public and bank holidays before you set go-live dates.

When you have missed the window

Opportunities do not always arrive with four weeks’ notice. On Influ.com.lk an accelerated campaign lets you post an urgent brief and receive sealed bids from creators within 24 hours, then have posts live within 48 hours of paying. It suits a last-minute stock push, a flash sale or reacting to something happening this week.

Quick tip

Set the go-live date in your brief to the Friday before the peak weekend, not the festival day itself. People plan their shopping on Friday evenings and buy on the weekend.

Plan the year in one sitting

Take the table above, mark the three or four moments that matter most to your customers, and set a reminder four weeks before each. When the reminder fires, open Influ.com.lk, shortlist creators in the right cities and niches, and book the swarm. Every price is on the rate card before you commit.
